The medaillon of the Zuidserre has been transformed into a Art Deco salon. It’s part of the exhibition Art Nouveau | Nieuwe Zakelijkheid | Delft in Museum Prinsenhof in Delft, showcasing the interplay between art, knowledge and industry in Delft from 1880 to 1940, a period in which several art movements came into being.
In the 1920s, the graceful and organic forms of the Art Nouveau was replaced by the heavy geometric shapes and rich colours of the Art Deco. Around the same time, artists and architectects developed ideas on the Nieuwe Zakelijkheid and its search for functional art and minimal ornamentation. The showcase on the medaillon functions as a prelude to the exhibition in the Prinsenhof that explores these different movements.
