08 September 2018 10:00 till 17:00 - Location: Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment - By: Communication BK
On Saturday, 8 September, BK City will be open to the public on the occasion of Open Monumentendag 2018. A lecture on ‘BK City in the city Delft’ will be given by Herman Vande Putte (MBE). Guided tours are also available.
The faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment was originally designed as an educational building for the Faculty of Chemistry. The design in expressionist style by Gerard van Drecht was therefore nicknamed ‘Red Chemistry’. Although construction started in 1918 already, the building was completed in 1945, serving as the main building of the Technical University Delft. Since 2008, the building has been accommodating BK City, after the original building for the faculty was destroyed in a fire. The building displays, among others, the chair collection that survived the fire. A selection is on permanent display, including original Rietveld chairs, in the hall along the faculty library on the first floor.
