A selection of product designs from the German industrial designer Dieter Rams can be seen during an exhibition in the hall of the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering from Friday 30 November until Friday 21 December. Dieter Rams (Wiesbaden, 1932) is closely associated with the consumer electronics company Braun and the functionalist school of industrial design.
‘Less, but better’
By producing electronic products that were remarkable in their austere aesthetic and user friendliness, Rams made Braun a household name in the 1950s. He introduced the idea of sustainable development and of obsolescence being a crime in design in the 1970s. Accordingly, he asked himself the question: "Is my design good design?" The answer he formed became the basis for his Ten Principles for Good Design.
