Mini-symposium Energy Transition in Urban Areas: Data, Modelling, and Policy Challenges

Facilitating the energy transition in urban areas is of paramount importance to prevent run-away climate change. As urban energy systems are complex systems, addressing the energy transition in urban areas is particularly challenging. Currently, there is a lack of good and sufficiently detailed information on the energy demand of both the built environment and the transportation sector. This mini-symposium and the following PhD defence of Nina Voulis address the issues of (1) demand data collection, standardisation, and analysis, (3) demand modelling, and (2) how increased knowledge of urban demand of both the built environment and the transportation sector can support researchers and stakeholders in to bring the energy transition to fruition.

About the speakers
Dr. Sonia Yeh is Professor in Transport and Energy Systems in the Department of Space, Earth and Environment at Chalmers University. Her expertise is in energy economics and energy system modelling, alternative transportation fuels, sustainability standards, technological change, and consumer behavior and urban mobility.
Frits Møller Andersen is Professor Systems Analysis in the Department of Management Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark. His expertise is in energy system modelling, in particular demand modelling, load forecasting and demand flexibility incentives. He has further worked in the fields of energy economics, energy policies, and waste and material flows modelling.
