Cyber Security Seminar by Dr. Aaron Visaggio : Malware analysis: where we are and where we should go

20 February 2020 12:00 till 13:00 - Location: FACULTY EEMCS-BUILDING 28, SOCIAL DATA LAB 0.E.220

In the last decade malware became a severe threat because of: the great volumes of instances circulating in the wild, the advanced techniques of evasion, compromising, and spreading, and the limitations of the available defence technologies.

Starting from the picture of the current state of malware attacks, in terms of amounts and technology, the seminar will offer an overview of the methodologies adopted for detecting and analysing malicious software. Thus, the most prominent findings offered by the literature will be summarized, while the open issues and the main challenges will be discussed in depth.

In particular the following issues will be addressed: the limitations (and the success) of machine learning in malware analysis and detection with respect to the chances of deep learning; the role of generative adversarial networks in malware generation, and the topics related to malware triaging and the optimization of threat intelligence."
