Luca Warmer - 20 June 2022

Voice artist Luca Warmer was born in Delft and, as a baby, heard the sounds of Frank Zappa and Keith Jarrett. At the age of ten she started playing the alto saxophone and around twelve she also wanted to start singing. Writing music and singing as passionately and freely as Nina Simone, Rachelle Ferrell and Carmen McRae, that was the ultimate. A godsend was the chance of touring with the choir of The Kyteman Orchestra and projects of Metropole Orkest. So was singing at festivals with hip-hop formation Mama Franko and afrobeat, soul and funk band Liquid Sun Orchestra.

Currently, she is enthusiastically involved in artistic projects and performs with various formations: Motown with Badass Soul Collective, jazz with the Rob Agerbeek Trio and a combination of classical and jazz in music company Revolve. Luca plays her own combination of world music, jazz and poetry in the theatre concert Appelstroop Met Tranen together with guitarist Paulinho Paes and percussionist Paul van Nispen, with which she wants to offer comfort in troubled times and touch a certain vulnerability.

Last summer Luca graduated with honours from the Jazz department of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and she recently released her debut album Huub, on which she sings about death and moves the listener with autobiographical lyrics. Luca sings, poems and creates from her heart, wherever and whenever she can.

Poliana Vieira - 29 June, 1-4-5-7-8 July 2022

Singer-songwriter Poliana Vieira has lived in the Netherlands since 2001, was born in Portugal and has roots in Cape Verde. After graduating as a filmmaker from the Willem de Kooning Academy, she decided to go for music: the thing that inspired her the most. Her music can best be described as multilingual world music with soul jazz and R&B influences that give you a taste of romance and melancholy. Besides her own songs, she also sings Portuguese songs and the traditional morna and coladeras of Cape Verde, which she will be performing at the lunch venue.

In 2012, Poliana won the Music Matters Award and became Music Ambassador of Rotterdam. With her first single "His Love is Worth" from her album MOODS, she became Radio 6 Soul & Jazz Talent. After a sold-out release, she received several nominations, and provided the support act for Lilian Vieira's club tour and that of Bernard Fowler (The Rolling Stones) in 2014. Vieira has also worked in projects with Rotterdam Philharmonic Banda, Cabocubajazz, Wojtek Justyna TreeOh! and The Refreshed Orchestra, among others, with whom she has also performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival and De Wereld Draait Door.

Her online concert in the main hall of De Doelen, which was recorded in April 2021, ended up on NPO Extra in December 2021 and May 2022, and she also appeared on the national SBS6 television programme "We Want More", in which all the members of the jury almost forgot to press the button because of their emotion at the performance.

Tess Merlot - 28 & 30 June 2022

"The first time Tess Merlot heard Jacques Brel, lightning struck."

Since then, the music has not stopped: she formed the band Tess et les Moutons and hundreds of shows later, every performance still revolves around the essence: pulling the human soul to the surface as only the French life song can. With originals by Brel, Piaf and Aznavour and her own work.

Motivated to share her passion and bring cultures together, Tess released her first EP Chansons pour non-francophones in 2017 with les Moutons. In 2019 she sang her own 'Mon Paris' in a packed Paradiso and in the first months of 2020 she toured with her Moutons in sold-out venues such as PAARD in The Hague and TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. In July 2021, debut album 'Laissez-moi' saw the light of day, with singles L'histoire de notre amour and Une romance d'été regularly appearing on Dutch radio.

Whether Tess performs with her band Tess et les Moutons or as a solo artist under the name Tess Merlot, she does so with an irresistible joie de vivre and the balls to show the uncastrated version of chansons. It may be subdued and beautiful, but it may also be robust and grotesque. And time after time, the primal forces of the chanson prove to possess a great magnetism: singing along, tears in the eyes and happy heads all over. In short: Tess Merlot fits in every setting where it is no disaster if wine is spilled.
