Never before have you seen how plants were used to make Vermeer’s paintings. This exhibition showcases which plants made it possible for 17th century painters, and specifically Johannes Vermeer, to produce their masterpieces.
What plants do you think Vermeer has used?
Let us take you on a journey through the plants and trees that were used for almost everything Vermeer needed: from his easels & brushes to the painting support, pigments & dyes, binder & medium, and the varnish & frames that finished off the paintings. You will find out that it certainly was a lot more complicated and time-consuming than you may think to get a painting done in those days.
