Sonnets for Science: Turning Science Into Poetry Workshop - Part II

30 March 2023 12:30 till 14:00 - Location: TU Delft Library | Add to my calendar

This is a 2-part writing workshop on 24 & 30 March (we encourage you to register for both days) and is brought to you by Hesiodos & the TU Delft Library. No poetry experience required. Lunch is included.

Transform yourself while turning science into sonnets with Bauke Steenhuisen, a poet, professor, and former TU Delft student who has composed more than 50 scientific sonnets sourced from TU Delft theses. He will be assisted by co-author Jeroen Manders and their scientific sonnets will be designed into an art book and mini exhibition this May at the Library. Sonnets created in the workshop can be submitted to be included in the exhibition.

Read two scientific sonnets from research conducted at the TU Delft here:

ā€˜Computational modelling of turbulent spray combustionā€™

ā€˜Self-Healing Corrosion Protective Sol-Gel Coatingsā€™

Baukeā€™s TEDxDELFT talk

Bauke Steenhuisen likes to believe he invented the scientific sonnet, but he probably didnā€™t. After his well-received TEDxDelft performance about the power of poetry, he started to versify theses and dissertations in the form of sonnets. In daily life, Bauke is a TU Delft alumn and assistant professor in the field of infrastructure governance.

Jeroen Manders is, among too many things to mention, an opera singing, acrobat as well as poetic engineer. Jeroen approaches his sonnets from outside science.
