Opto-electrical modelling of CIGS solar cells

Copper Indium Gallium (di)selenide (CIGS) solar cells are promising thin film candidates. The structure of the flat cell (with some roughness on each layer) is shown in the figure. Compared to Silicon based solar cells, this type of solar cells are new and need to be investigated thoroughly. Opto-electrical modelling of these devices is one of the most important activities that should be done in order to achieve thinner, more efficient and cost effective devices that can compete the conventional solar cells in the market.

Research objective

In this PhD project the effect of each layer's thickness on the device performance, alternative seed layers, tandem devices and eventually device optimization will be carried out using opto-electrical modelling.
