Andreas Engel Lab
Welcome to the Andreas Engel group
Research of the Engel group at the Department of Bionanoscience at the TU Delft concerns the structure and function of membrane proteins in general. We use electron and atomic force microscopes to elucidate the structure of membrane proteins embedded in the lipid bilayer. Collaborations within TU Delft include the study of membrane bound proteases, the development of novel tools to prepare samples for cryo-electron microscopy, and the development of image processing methods. International collaborations focus on the water flow regulation in kidneys (Robert A. Fenton, Aarhus University, DK and Tom Walz, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA), and on photon detection in vertebrate eyes (Krzysztof Palczewski, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA).
