Rational design of electrocatalysts by atomic layer deposition (ALD)/ molecular layer deposition (MLD)

The continuous increase of the carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration in the atmosphere has driven a global attention for rapid climate change. Using electrocatalysts to convert CO2 into value-added chemicals or fuels through electrochemical reactions can bring huge advances in environmental merits and plant energy utilization infrastructures.

My project focuses on the rational design of electrocatalysts for carbon dioxide reduction by atomic layer deposition (ALD) and/or molecular layer deposition (MLD) for industrial-scale application. Upgrade the fundamental understanding of the reaction pathways on the catalyst surface, the adsorption and desorption behavior of reaction intermediates, and the effect of electrocatalyst hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity modification.
