Mrs. Dr. ir. Marlies C. Goorden
I work in the section Biomedical Imaging since 2008. In my research I focus on improving imaging geometries of SPECT, PET and CT geometries by theoretical analysis, e.g. by developing analytical models or by full scanner simulations with Monte Carlo or ray tracing methods. I am also highly interested in developing and improving image reconstruction; to achieve this we develop accurate photon transport models which can then be incorporated into statistical iterative image reconstruction and we have proposed several accelerated image reconstruction algorithms. Additionally, I have worked on optimization of gamma ray detectors by using novel detection algorithms, various scintillating materials and new combinations of sensors. I am currently developing a prototype breast SPECT scanner with an STW-VIDI grant.
