David Leibold

David works as a PhD candidate in the Medical Physics and Technology (MPT) group on spectral cone beam CT detectors. The spectral information in the X-ray images enables the extraction of more information from medical images than was previously possible, and will be the next leap in medical imaging with X-rays. Working closely with the proton therapy centre Holland PTC in Delft, it is our intention to introduce spectral cone beam CT to the workflow of proton therapy. Spectral cone beam CT images could be used to provide better images of the patient's anatomy of the day, up to date proton stopping power ratios of the tissues, and even real time tracking of tumor movement. David focuses on the reconstruction of the spectral cone beam CT images, and on devising a model that relates detector performance with the detector parameters. An industrial partner is also involved in the project.
