Board

GreenTU is led by a board of seven student employees, newly selected each academic year. The GreenTU board falls under the responsibility of TU Delft's executive board, and works closely together with TU Delft's core sustainability people (such as sustainability coordinator Andy van den Dobbelsteen) and university services.

Below, this year's board members will introduce themselves and their function!

Marie-Anne | Chair

Sustainability used to be more of a personal interest of mine, but currently I'm on a mission to do more than just talk about the climate crisis: I want to find solutions! Therefore, after finishing my bachelor's in Applied Physics, I started a master's in Industrial Ecology. Currently, I am combining that with a second master's in Management of Technology.

Working on sustainability plans this year as the GreenTU Chair is a constant journey of finding new challenges and solutions. I find it particularly interesting how we can translate long-term goals into practical short-term actions. And as we work on making TU Delft more sustainable, we need to make changes. This is the time to make sure that those changes are made in an inclusive way. That is why this year I am focussing on encouraging all TU Delft's community members to work together to build an environmentally conscious and socially responsible university!

Alice | Secretary

I'm Alice, the new Secretary of this year’s GreenTU Board! I have a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design with a specialization in Visual Communication Design and am currently in my 2nd year of Master on Strategic Product Design next to working as GreenTU Board member.

My involvement with environmental awareness began in my childhood, driven by being raised in Brazil—a country surrounded by nature yet facing socio-economic challenges. It has always been integral to my identity as a designer to drive positive change. Therefore, just before starting my Master's program at TU Delft, I explored sustainability initiatives to continue making impact, and GreenTU showed up to me.

I believe in inspiring people to act through education. This year, my goal is to bring internal organisation for GreenTU and raise student awareness about sustainable practices and their contributions to TU Delft. Together, let's open space for real change. We can do it!

Judit | Operations Coordinator

I’m Judit (she/her), I studied BSc Architecture here in Delft and am now bridging from MSc Metropolitan Analysis, Design and Engineering to Design for Interaction. This year I take on the role of Operations Coordinator. This means I get to talk with the cool people who are organizing all sorts of big things on campus, and be connecting inspired people to other inspiring people. Together with the rest of this years GreenTU board, we will focus on building the sustainability community and help accelerate plans and projects for a sustainable TU Delft. What does that mean though? A sustainable TU Delft? It’s quite complex, so let’s make that clearer too. (Check out the Vision, Ambition and Action plan, 2022 for a great starting point).

The TU is a fascinating organisation of quite substantial proportions. This means change can take a long time to surface properly everywhere. As Operations Coordinator I hope to be able to nudge people (further) in the sustainable direction, and to be an understanding but critical voice. Because sustainability is a broad term that gets us lost sometimes, and changing habits naturally needs some extra input.

The focus should however be, in my opinion, on systemic change, in which the default choice is sustainable. We re-create and re-inforce the way we organise our living environment and university every day. So let’s connect, collaborate and be critical and passionate. If this sparks anything (what ever!) in you, send me an email! I love dreaming and I have some experience in making them happen.

Tessa | GreenTeams Coordinator

My name is Tessa and I will be the next GreenTeams Coordinator. I am currently in my second year of the master Strategic Product Design at Industrial Design Engineering.

As sustainability is becoming a bigger aspect to think of during design processes, it inspired me to focus more on that area as a designer. I am also interested in the future career possibilities with a positive impact. A year ago I also followed an IDE Academy organized by the IDE GreenTeam, which sparked interest in GreenTU and eventually made me apply for this role!

As a designer I always like to work together in teams, which I can do this year by working with all the GreenTeams from the different faculties. I am excited to start this year and to see how much of an impact we can make together to ensure that the TU Delft reaches its goals for 2030.

If you are interested in what you can do or if you would like to talk about joining a GreenTeam, don’t hesitate to message me via greentu@tudelft.nl or via Instagram message! Together we can make a change.

Lars | Outreach Coordinator

I am Lars, and I will be Outreach Coordinator for the GreenTU board this year. I have a background in Computer Science, but switched to the master Industrial Ecology last year to see how I could apply these skills in society. Sustainability has been of interest to me for some time, as I’ve been a vegetarian for years and continuously aim to minimize my personal impact on the environment.

As outreach coordinator I am the contact person for organisations inside and outside the TU Delft, so please send me a message if you would like to talk about anything sustainability related! I also oversee our subsidy and label, which support long-term sustainability projects.

For this year my aim is to involve as many people as possible in the sustainability transition of the TU Delft, as there is a lot of potential for collaboration and information sharing. My main motivation for being involved in this movement is seeing all the people motivated to solve the climate crisis, so feel welcome to join our community!

Nika | Communications & Events Coordinator

My name is Nika, and I am the new Communications & Events Coordinator for GreenTU. At the moment, I am in my third year of the Aerospace Engineering BSc. My main tasks in the board are organizing GreenTU’s events and managing our social media channels. Within these tasks, I try to focus on getting more students excited for sustainability!

As a GreenTU board member, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a visible sustainable impact on our university and the campus, where we spend a lot of our time as students. I want to reach further with my ideas on how our campus can become a leading example in the field of sustainability and how we can strengthen the green community at TU Delft.

My goal for the upcoming year is to increase the visibility of GreenTU and show what sustainable plans we and the TU Delft are working on and how students, employees, and others can help. With the events we organize, I hope to encourage others to start making a green impact. I want to show that sustainability is important and necessary, but can also be extremely fun!

Javier | Education & Research Coordinator

The Climates Crisis is worsening existing problems and making the future more and more uncertain, especially for young people. This is why I want to support and accelerate TU Delft's ambitions in education and research to become a leading global climate university. Through student and staff participation, educational innovation, breakthrough research and commitment to sustainability and change, we can make TU Delft a role model on how to make the world a better place.
