MSc. Aghaeian, S.

Soroush Aghaeian is a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Design for Sustainability (DFS) research group at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His primary research area revolves around the concept of designing for a circular economy, with a specific emphasis on developing strategies and methodologies for enhancing the reuse, repair, remanufacturing, and recycling of materials and products.

Academic Background

During his undergraduate studies in Materials & Metallurgy Engineering, Soroush conducted research on the impact of severe deformations on the mechanical and microstructural properties of alloys. Subsequently, during his master's program in Extractive Metallurgy Engineering, he focused on the extraction of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) using hydrometallurgy processes.

Prior to joining IDE, Soroush pursued a Ph.D. in the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) department at Delft University of Technology. His doctoral research involved a collaborative effort with Tata Steel in IJmuiden and M2i, with a specific focus on investigating the high-temperature oxidation kinetics of steels. This research encompassed both experimental and simulation-based approaches to study the oxidation behavior of steels, enabling the prediction of oxide growth rate and composition. His previous research experience encompassed various subjects, including physical-based simulation, machine-learning modeling, high-temperature oxidation, and materials technical characterization, such as electron microscopy.
