Dr. ir. Boon, M.J.B.

Boudewijn Boon is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His main research activities are centered on enabling behaviour change and understanding the various ways in which design activities can play a central role in generating knowledge (i.e. ‘research through design’). Boudewijn is currently working as a postdoc at the Food and Eating Design Lab, exploring how ‘seasonality’ can play role in promoting healthy and sustainable eating.

Academic Background

In his work, Boudewijn generates concepts and prototypes, and implements these in real world contexts. Below is a short video of Fizzy, a robotic ball designed to enable young children with cancer to engage in physical activity and play during periods of hospitalization. Boudewijn designed Fizzy as part of his PhD research and conducted field work with Fizzy at the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology.

After a BEng in product design and a MSc in industrial ecology, Boudewijn Boon started his PhD at Delft University of Technology, focusing on stimulating young children's physical activity and play in hospital environments. After obtaining his doctoral degree, he has started as a postdoc on the topic of designing for healthy lifestyles.
