Biography

Prof J.J. Jakimowicz MD, PhD, FRCS, Ed 
Jack Jakimowicz is professor Safety in Health care at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He is a leading authority in the field of minimally invasive surgery and an expert on ergonomic applications and new technological developments. His chair focuses on the quality and safety of medical technology in general and minimally invasive surgery in particular. The activities of his chair are aimed at expanding collaboration between hospitals, TU Delft and the medical industry, in the framework of the Medisign programme. It especially focuses on safeguarding quality, and the safety of medical technology. Jack Jakimowicz is involved in multiple Medisign projects to create innovative solutions and improve the interaction between the user and technology; As part of the program, he supervises student projects and several PhD candidates. In addition to his activities at TU Delft, he puts his experience and expertise to use as an advisor to the Catharina Hospital's Education and Research department. Jack Jakimowicz is a member of several national and international surgical societies and past secretary general as well as past president of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES). Furthermore he is an honorary member of the Polish Surgical Society and EAES. Currently he is internal auditor of the executive board of the EAES and chairman of the board of Laparoscopic Surgical Skills Foundation (LSS).
