Mailin Lemke is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.

Academic Background

Mailin studied Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund and ‘Communication in Space' at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz before working as a communication designer in Cologne, Germany. In 2015 she moved to Wellington in New Zealand for her PhD. Her doctoral research focused on the design of everyday objects for people with signs of a mild & chronic stroke to facilitate the rehabilitation process of the upper limb in the home environment. She has furthermore contributed to research projects in the context of women's health and to empower children to engage in their healthcare therapies. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Design at Victoria University of Wellington on a new patient handling system for a novel head-only MRI scanner before starting her position as a post-doctoral researcher for the Pride and Prejudice project in 2019. Her current research focuses on the experience of disgust in the context of promoting a healthier food consumption and the experience of solo diners in the public and private context.
