MA, Li, M.
I am Meng Li, a PhD candidate in the Applied Ergonomics & Design section, and the Industrial Design department. I started my doctoral program in September 2017. My hometown is a historical city named Xi’an, the place where the ancient Silk Road starts and where the Terracotta Warriors are located. I finished my Master in Design at Xi’an Jiaotong University, a member of the Chinese Elite University Alliance - C9. After my graduation, I have been working as a researcher and lecturer there. During this time, I visited the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering twice, in 2015 and in the summer of 2016. The open and vibrant academic atmosphere encouraged me to pursue my further education here.
My research topic is "Immersive Virtual Environment Enabled Safe Design for Human-Machine Interaction", which aims at greatly reducing human errors in human-machine interaction with the facility of immersive virtual technologies, such as immersive VR, AR or MR. This research project is supervised by Prof. ir. Daan van Eijk (promotor) and Armagan Albayrak (daily supervisor). A pilot study on AR visualization for collaborative remote factory planning has already been conducted (a part of FP7: Factory in A Day), and the project is currently in collaboration with Skills Lab in Catharina Hospital on virtual and augmented surgery training.
