Dr. ir. Melles, M.
Marijke Melles is associate professor of Teamwork Design at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Her expertise is in the field of human-centered design for complex sociotechnical systems, in particular for supporting inter-professional teamwork and patient participation in care networks.
Academic Background
Marijke Melles holds a MSc (1996) and PhD (2011) in Industrial Design Engineering from Delft University of Technology. Her doctoral research focused on supporting the work process of intensive care nurses by means of future technology in a way that fits their natural working methods.
Next to her position in Delft, Marijke is visiting associate professor at Amsterdam University Medical Centre's department of Public and Occupational Health (location VUmc). She is one of the initiators of the living lab ‘Teamwork Design', a joint initiative of TU Delft and Amsterdam UMC. Furthermore, Marijke is project leader of the research program 'Tailored healthcare through customer profiling' on defining and implementing data-driven patient profiles in care networks. From 2007 till 2017, she was coordinator of the master specialisation ‘Medisign’ at TU Delft.
Marijke Melles is President of Human Factors NL, the Dutch human factors and ergonomics society and Chair of the Technical Committee Healthcare Ergonomics of the International Ergonomics Association.
