Ir. Poppelaars, F.A.

Academic Background

Flora Poppelaars is a PhD candidate in the research group Circular Product Design at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. She researches how users can participate in a Circular Economy by closing the loop after use.

The main objective of her PhD research is to find solutions to increase the collection of mobile devices after use so as to foster a transition towards a circular economy. Flora focuses on two ways to achieve systematic collection in the B2C market: (a) the voluntary collection in ownership-based consumption, and (b) the contractual collection in access-based consumption (e.g. leasing and pay-per-use).

Previously, for her graduation project in collaboration with Vodafone, Flora explored how circularity could be integrated in the development of smartphones.

During her Integrated Product Design master, she was admitted to the Honours Programme for which she researched the use of Ecodesign and Cradle-to-Cradle in product development. She was also selected to represent the TU Delft in the Schmidt-MacArthur Fellowship cohort of 2013 organized by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
