MSc. Scharff, R.B.N.

Rob Scharff is lecturer at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.

Academic Background

Rob Scharff received the M.Sc. degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2015.  He is currently a PhD candidate working on soft robotics.

Within this field, he mainly focuses on pneumatic (3D-printed) robots with grasping functionalities. The goal of his research is to accurately control the behavior of soft robots. This is achieved through the development of novel sensing methods, and structural optimization of the actuators.

One of the applications of the developed techniques are in soft manipulators that handle fragile objects such as fruits and vegetables. Other applications include soft care robots, soft exploratory robots, and intelligent soft robotic products such as chairs and matrasses.
