Dr. Secomandi, F.

Fernando Secomandi is assistant professor at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. His research mainly focuses on the intersection of industrial design and philosophy of technology. He currently investigates the theme of design justice with special attention to AI-enabled interfaces that mediate social relations, in healthcare and other areas.

Academic Background

With a background in industrial design, he holds a bachelor degree (2003) from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and MSc (2007) and PhD (2012) degrees from the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands). From 2015 to 2021, he taught at the Rio de Janeiro State University, where he also assumed the positions of vice coordinator of the graduate program and of coordinator of research. From 2017 to 2021, he has also consulted part time for global corporations on design-driven digital innovation.

He currently holds the position of Associate Editor for the Journal of Human-Technology Relations (TU Delft OPEN Publishing).
