Dr. Spagnol, S.

Simone Spagnol is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. Simone's scientific activity is mainly devoted to the management and representation of auditory information, and to the use of audio solutions in the health and care domain.

Simone is currently working on setting up an intelligent sound sensor system for the interpretation and representation of acoustic data through machine learning. The results of his work are expected to lead to new research in applied acoustics for socio-technological workspaces.

Academic Background

In 2019-2020 Simone held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at Aalborg University, Copenhagen. He has previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Iceland, Iuav University of Venice, and the University of Padova, where he received a PhD in Information Engineering in 2012.

Simone has been a key researcher and principal investigator in several international and national research projects, including two Horizon 2020 EU projects: Individual Three-Dimensional Spatial Auditory Displays for Immersive Virtual Environments (IT'S A DIVE, H2020-MSCA-IF-2017, Aalborg University, Denmark) and Sound of Vision - Natural Sense of Vision through Acoustics and Haptics (SoV, H2020-EU.3.1, University of Iceland).

Simone has been chairing the Scientific Committee of the 2020 and 2021 editions of the international Sound and Music Computing (SMC) Conference. Since 2020, he is Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
