Dr. Cardoso, C.M.

Assistant Professor

Biography

Dr Carlos Cardoso is Assistant Professor of design theory and methodology. His research focuses on creative thinking in design, particularly on how different types of cognitive bias might inhibit creativity at individual and group levels. He uses quantitative and qualitative research methods in the assessment of creative performance and achievement, with a view to supporting creativity and innovation in educational and professional settings.

Carlos has a background in Industrial design and has worked as a usability consultant for several British design companies. He earned his Ph.D. in human-centred design from the Engineering Design Centre, University of Cambridge (UK), where he also conducted his post-doctoral research. Carlos has collaborated with other academic and industrial design partners, such is as the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins School of Design, the Design Council, Tangerine Product Design, IDEO, Philips, IKEA and TomTom. He is active with several organising committees at international design conferences, and chairing international workshops on design creativity research.

Carlos is particularly driven to challenge how creative thinking is steered in design-related fields and how new methods and applications might shape the future of research and education in interdisciplinary contexts.
