Dr. Dipl. - Des. Boess, S.U.

Assistant Professor
Design for Interaction

Biography

Dr Stella Boess' research interests lie in developing design thinking and doing tools for designers and non-designers. For example, she developed a workshop method for product development teams to share knowledge about product use during the design process. This was done as part of the Design for Usability project funded by the Dutch government. She also explores how design researchers can use artefacts to interact with stakeholders in collaborative sessions via the ongoing master elective course Prototyping for Interaction and Participation (PIP) and in her role as coordinator of the Design for Interaction master project Exploring Interactions. She has worked in product design consultancy and user research for design, both employed and independently. She is frequently invited to lecture, chair events and review scientific publications. In 2003 she earned a PhD from Staffordshire University (UK) with a research and design project on bathrooms for older people. The research inquired into the designer's experience of user-centred designing. Previously she studied product design at HBK Saar (Germany).
