Research and education at TU Delft regularly result in new technology, inventions and software. The utilization of these innovations is important to society. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play a crucial role in achieving this goal. That is why TU Delft strives to protect the intellectual ownership rights of (at least part of) the inventions through patent applications.
A patent enables the commercial exploitation of an invention. In this way, know-how generated at the TU Delft increases in value. Several tools are available to facilitate this, such as licensing or sale of a patent, using it to attract research funding or to found a start-up.
