Best paper award for Doris Aschenbrenner and Jouke Verlinden

Visiting researcher Doris Aschenbrenner and IDE researcher Jouke Verlinden have won a best paper award for the ASME 2017 IDETC/CIE (6-9 August, Cleveland, Ohio, USA). The article is a major study of the effectiveness of remote collaboration through Augmented Reality versus other techniques (webcam, VR).

Excelscope wins Medical Delta Young Talent Award 2017

The Excelscope project: Smart Malaria Diagnostics for Low Resource Settings won the Medical Delta Young Talent Award 2017 on Tuesday 27 June. The team includes DFI graduate Julia Stoevelaar of the faculty of IDE.

International Research Collaboration Award from The University of Sydney

Dr Anna Pohlmeyer, assistant professor at the faculty of IDE and co-director of the Delft Institute of Positive Design, received the International Research Collaboration Award from the University of Sydney for a research project on Design for Well-being in collaboration with Prof. Rafael Calvo.

IDE PhD student Jan Konietzko wins best paper award

Jan Konietzko, PhD student at IDE, won an award for ‘the best paper bridging theory and practice´ at the Spring Servitization Conference 2017 in Lucerne, Switzerland. The article is called “Ecosystem servitization – Looking at nature as a service business”.

Eight VIDI grants for TU Delft

NWO has awarded 8 experienced researchers from TU Delft with a VIDI grant worth 800,000 euros. The grant enables them to develop their own innovative line of research and set up their own research group.

Huggable robot Somnox wins public award Philips Innovation Award 2017

The startup Somnox won the public award of the Philips Innovation Award 2017 on Monday 8 May. Somnox is a breathing soft robot that helps falling asleep. The start-up was founded by four TU Delft students, including IDE student Julian Jagtenberg.

IDE PhD candidate wins a Schmidt MacArthur Fellowship 2017

PhD candidate Deborah Sumter and her mentor Prof. Ruud Balkenende of the faculty of IDE hae been awarded a place on the Schmidt MacArthur Fellowship. This is a yearlong international programme on circular economy for postgraduates studying design, engineering and business.

IDE students present to renowned companies

Thursday 26 January IDE students of the ‘Design Strategy Project’, an SPD master course, took over the headquarter of three companies: Adidas in Herzogenaurach and Ford in Cologne (both Germany) and KLM (Amstelveen). All student teams gave their final presentations.

TU Delft alumni win ISEA student project competition 2016

On Friday 16 December the award ceremony of the ISEA student project competition 2016 took place. Marco Reijne and Biem Wibbens, alumni of the TU Delft, are the first and second price winners of this competition. This competition was for students who have undertaken an individual project on a sports engineering topic.

3D printed bike awarded during Purmundus Challenge

During the congress Formnext in Frankfurt on 17 November, prices were awarded for the Purmundus Challenge (international design competition for 3D Printing). Anne Bekker of the faculty of IDE received the third price with the 3D printed bike.
