In recent years, CRISPR/Cas, an advanced genetic editing technology, has been the subject of considerable scientific and media attention. But could such a technology actually create a “Jessica Jones” or replicate the powers of the X-Men? In BingeWatch Academy: Superhero Science Episode II, the marvels of CRISPR/Cas, and its current and future applications are explored.
Episode III: Supergirl & The Flash
Ever wanted to run as fast as The Flash or Supergirl? In Episode III, you’ll hear about the type of low-drag sports clothing that The Flash and Supergirl should wear when running. You’ll also hear about gene doping, and a technique developed by iGEM at TU Delft that could be used to determine if someone was trying to become like The Flash. Finally, the implications of a fictitious world where everyone is The Flash or Supergirl will be pondered.
Episode IV: Daredevil
Daredevil, otherwise known as the “Man without Fear” or “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen” experiences the world in a different way to us thanks to his superhuman senses, despite the fact that he is blind. Episode IV will explore technologies that could augment our senses, theories that could allow us to detect precursors to events before they happen, and consider how drone technologies can provide us with a new perspective of buildings and structures.
