FLOCMUD

Essential fundamental processes of sediment dynamics (rheology, hindered settling, consolidation, gravity currents, organic matter stability) have been adapted in order to develop sustainable sediment management strategies for port accessibility. Conditioning of sediment for port maintenance is one of the best examples where scientific knowledge on sediment processes can be successfully put to practice. This project extends the investigations carried out by BIOMUD and RHEOMUD as part of HPA’s project ‘Nautische Tiefe’ and continue the consultation process on rheological characterisation monitoring techniques and defining a new nautical bottom as defined in the ‘MoU between the Port of Rotterdam, the Hamburg Port Authority and Delft University of Technology regarding Nautical Depth Issues.
