'The Week of' photoreports
Every now and then, student teams, scientists and study associations are the face of the TU Delft for a week. During their unique projects they share their `#theweekof experiences´ through the Instagram account of TU Delft.
Photoreport Jessica Brown at Ascension Island
The influence of forest fires on cloud formation and climate change. In short, this is what an international team of scientists monitored from Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean. Researcher Martin de Graaf of TU Delft and the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) studied cloud formation there in September via lidar (radar with laser light). On this page you will find the photoreport that Jessica Brown published via Instagram. More information about the project can be found here.
Hi everyone! I'm Jess, a MSc student from @uniwageningen, doing my internship at KNMI and working on a campaign from @TUDelft! This week I will share some snaps of our preparations and first few days of an awesome campaign on a remote island. Want to find out where we are going and what we are doing? Then watch this space! #tudelft #theweekof
Together with a number of different international campaigns, my supervisor Martin de Graaf and I will be heading to Ascension Island! If you don't know where it is, it's smack-bang in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The perfect location to study the interaction between clouds and aerosols! #TUDelft #theweekof
As well as a lidar, we will be taking a sun photometer along. That's a handheld device which measures the aerosol optical thickness (AOT) - a measure of how much sunlight is scattered or absorbed by dust, smoke or pollution in the air. Today in Wageningen it was around 0.15 - I wonder what the AOT will be on Ascension Island? #TUDelft #theweekof
My last photo for #theweekof from Ascension Island and the ASCII campaign. The lidar is running perfectly and already collecting interesting data - lots of very low clouds! And now I'm ready for the data analysis over the next 3 weeks that I'm on Ascension. Thanks very much for watching! #TUDelft #theweekof
