About the project

Over the past years the number of visitors of Sports & Culture has grown up to 1.2 million visitors per year. In order to be able to continue to provide a high-quality offer, the available surface of Sports & Culture will be increased from 10.000 to 14.000 square meters.

Both buildings will be connected to each other through a central entrance (Playground), starting from the square to the sports fields at the back. The Playground will be a vibrant place where encounters, relaxation and personal development take center stage. Explore yourself. Enlarge your playground! The space will be flexible to use and will fully support pop-up programming and cross pollination, so that together we can contribute to the liveliness of the Playground!

Expansion and upgrade facilities

The current complex gets a facelift. For example, the Sports Cafe will be refurbished in the summer of 2016. Not only the kitchen will expand, but also the Cafe will get a different look and feel. Furthermore, the current offices are transformed into a transparent 'Creatief Oplaadpunt', which adds to a visible connection between students and staff of S&C. In addition to upgrading the existing facilities, the complex is extended with a range of new facilities, which are accessible through the Playground:

  • A new large sports hall
  • Three smaller halls
  • Two multifunctional spaces
  • Concept Store
  • Lab for 2D/3D technology
  • Extra storage and changing rooms

When possible, furniture and other materials will be reused to support a sustainable rebuilding process.
