New science centre and new name

From 2022, the Science Centre Delft will be called TU Delft Science Centre. Michael van der Meer, director of the TU Delft Science Centre, says: "The new name shows the strong connection between the science centre and TU Delft. The visitors immediately know that technology and science are central and that you can expect depth."

The new TU Delft Science Centre will be developed in several phases. In 2022, the focus will be on building and furnishing all educational and research facilities necessary for the university's main tasks; educate students and facilitate researchers. The public part, the experience and exhibition, will be developed from 2023. This experience shows the innovative strength of TU Delft in a completely new concept. Van der Meer states: "TU Delft is always innovating and inventing new products. Although this research might seem very complex, it's also very important for daily life. Think of the theme sustainability. The research that is currently being done might be practicle enough to be introduced in your home five years from now. This is exactly what we want to capture and show in the new experience. It's more than just a future invention, it might be your future."

TU Delft Science Centre will open two special facilities for researchers and students in the autumn of 2022. The BioLab for microbiological research and the Makerspace as the central manufacturing facility of the TU Delft Campus. At first both facilities will only be accessible to the general public during events. Earlier this year, all our teaching rooms opened for school visits. Students from all over the Netherlands can follow workshops here and get to know the university.
