Biography

Capacity development and urban development are my main interest and have been the drivers of my professional work life throughout. The role as lecturer at Management in the Built Environment at the Faculty of Architecture provides me with the opportunity to combine teaching with my interest in urban development with a focus on finance. My main research interest and expertise is on affordable housing in particular in the Global South, where I have mainly focused on the nexus between finance, policy and management.

At MBE I am involved in the MSc courses related to real estate finance and economics (Building Economics, Real Estate Management and the Urban Redevelopment Game). In the Bachelor course, I teach housing markets and building economics (MA1 and MA3) and am involved as a tutor in ON5 and AC3. In addition, I supervise MSc thesis and will be involved in research of the Real Estate Management section. Furthermore, I contribute to the Global Urban Lab to continue to share my experience of working in the Global South.

Prior to joining TU Delft, I worked as a housing expert at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) of Erasmus University of Rotterdam. During that time, I was teaching and coordinating MSc, post-graduate and tailor-made courses with a focus on policy and finance aspects of affordable adequate housing in the Global South. I have also conducted advisory studies for local and national governments on developing adequate affordable housing strategies and have trained developers of housing on the ground. After IHS, I worked as a lecturer in Architecture and Spatial Development at The Hague University of Applied Sciences for 2 years, combining this with consultancies, for among others, the World Bank. Recent research includes work on the 5A approach – a model for adequate housing; based on particular on the research work conducted while at IHS.
