Profile

My research evaluates the impacts of implementing potential pathways to decarbonize processes in oil refineries. Two Colombian refineries are used as a case study, for each refinery, solutions pathways are identified according to the complexity and geographical location. The methodology consists of a combination of system analysis optimization/simulation and /or Decision making techniques. As a result, I obtain insights on how to implement Technological decarbonization pathways in oil refineries. This insight is shown as a ranking of alternatives generated for each type of refinery in the short and long term to achieve the committed CO2-cutting emission goals.

I am a Ph.D. candidate at TPM faculty exploring the impact of implementing higher potential pathways to decarbonize processes in oil refineries under the supervision of prof. Andrea Ramirez Ramirez.  I hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the National University of Colombia and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Technological University of Bolivar, also in Colombia. My thesis was focused on developing a cost-effective model to produce green hydrogen using renewable energy and evaluating different types of hydrogen production technologies and their integration in the refinery. Additionally, I also have more than 20 years of professional experience in operations, design, and commissioning of process and power industries.
