Profile

Biography

Dr.ir. I. Akkerman obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Aerospace Engineering at the Delft university of Technology, both cum laude, in a 2001 and 2004 respectively.  He obtained his Ph.D. Degree in 2009 for doing research on finite element formulation of turbulent flow and methods for the improvement of the selection of numerical parameters. From 2009 to 2012 he was a post doctoral researcher at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) working on  free-surface flow,  fluid structure interaction and isogeometric analysis. Form 2012 to 2014 he held a lectureship position at Durham University, UK. Form 2014 he holds the position of Assistant Professor in Ship Hydromechanics and Structures.

Expertise

Dr.ir. I. Akkerman works on numerical methods for free-surface problems, in particular finite element and isogeometric analysis methods in conjunction with level-sets. His research field also includes fluid-structure interaction, in particular floating rigid and elastic bodies.
