Ivan Buijnsters is an associate professor in the section Micro and Nano Engineering of Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering at Delft University of Technology.

He is an independent research leader with strong eye for materials-enabled solutions and specialized in synthetic diamond. His main research interest is the development of surface-engineered materials for micro engineering, sensors and electrochemistry. In particular, Ivan works on the synthesis, characterization and application of thin-film diamond but also on other (carbon) nanomaterials, e.g. graphene and diamond nanoparticles. His current research focuses on modified B-doped diamond electrodes for energy technology, wastewater treatment and sensing.

Ivan Buijnsters has widely published in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences and is an editorial board member of the journal Diamond and Related Materials and C – Journal of Carbon Research. He holds an MSc degree in Chemistry (cum laude) and a PhD degree in Applied Physics, and he has worked as postdoctoral researcher at various institutions in The Netherlands and abroad, including Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands), KU Leuven (Belgium) and Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC, Spain).
