Marjolein Spaans works as an assistant professor in the field of spatial governance and area development within the Department of Management in the Built Environment (Urban Development Management). Her research focuses on planning, governance and instruments on various levels of scales. Her research often has an international comparative dimension. Marjolein Spaans has been involved in a number of faculty and cross-university activities: as programme coordinator of the Delft Research Center Sustainable Urban Areas, scientific secretary of the TU Delft Transport Institute, theme coordinator within the Delft Environment Initiative and programme director in the Master programme Geographical Information Management and Applications (collaboration of the universities of Utrecht, Delft, Wageningen and Twente) and LDE Cities Hub (Leiden-Delft-Erasmus collaboration). In addition to teaching in the BSc and MSc at the faculty, she is also coordinator of the Urban Strategies and Concepts Module of the Master City Developer (collaboration TUD and EUR).
