Profile

Current Research

Critical components of machines and structures often fail due to fatigue. Fatigue under rolling contact occurs in a wide range of engineering applications such as in wheels, rails, bearings and gears. The damage is detrimental to the economical and safe operation of the structures and the machines. Avoidance or improved control of damage development is desired.

Omid’s research is mostly on the development of fundamental insights in the relations between mechanical loading, RCF damage development, and micro-structural features.

Biography

Omid received his bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2010 and his master degree in Computational Mechanics from Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2013.

At 2014, he joined the research team at Railway Engineering group at TU Delft as a PhD researcher. And since 2019, he is a PostDoctoral researcher at the Railway Engineering group.

His research topic is mainly micro-mechanical investigation (both modelling and experiments) on Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) damage initiation and development in rails with different steel grades.
