Profile

My research lies at the intersection of experimental archaeology, archaeometry, and materials science. I focus primarily on the earliest production and use of adhesives by Neanderthals and early anatomically modern humans. I completed my MSc (cum laude) and PhD in Material Culture Studies at Leiden University and am currently employed as a post-doctoral researcher in the Ancient Adhesives project in Materials Science and Engineering, TUDelft. Through the identification and characterization of archaeological residues, experimental reconstructions, and material property testing, my research sheds light on technological and behavioural developments of our prehistoric ancestors. The ultimate aim of my research is to help answer questions about how we became the only remaining hominin species on Earth, and explore how we interact and are influenced by our environment and technologies.
