Profile

Expertise

I lead spatial planning and research in the Department of Urbanism at TU Delft.

I teach, supervise PhD candidates, support research bids and help with publications. My research and teaching is on European spatial planning (the role of the EU in territorial management) and comparative planning systems and policies.  We take advantage of our multinational staff (representing more than 20 countries) to strengthen expertise in international comparative planning and urban development of metropolitan regions.  I also continue to study the evolution of town and country planning in the UK. I am widening my interests to embrace planning systems and approaches to territorial management in other parts of the world, especially in Taiwan and China.

I have been a visiting professor at South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, the National Cheng Kung University and the National Taipei University, Taiwan; the Institute of Environmental Planning, Leibniz University, Hannover; and the OTB Research Institute, TU Delft.

Interests: comparative town and country planning systems and policies in Europe, spatial planning, environmental planning, city and regional planning
