Internship

About

The aim of an external project (internship) is to become familiar with the TIL practice.

You may carry it out for a company or public agency. Sometimes Dispuut Verkeer publishes internship offers. In some cases we receive offers from companies, which we then publish, but in most cases you have to find an internship yourself.

The internship should be of a good calibre. In order to receive the credits, you should prepare the following:

  • A complete technical report describing the content of the project: Goals, research/design questions, choice and application of scientific methods, main results, evaluation, literature references, appendices;

  • A complete evaluation report describing your  experience: The process, what you liked or not regarding the commissioner and the job, how you interacted with company supervisors and other staff, your personal learning goals, the usefulness of your BSc and MSc courses, etc.

  • A summary of 1 page.

Supervision

You will need a (daily) external (company/agency) supervisor and a suitable TUD University Supervisor. You usually meet your TUD University Supervisor a few times during the project:
- At the start to discuss the content of your assignment, because your TUD University Supervisor should accept your written project proposal before you start your internship;
- At your or his/her request during execution in particular to discuss draft results/reports;
- When you hand-in your two internship reports;
- At the end for the internship evaluation interview
In case of an internship abroad, do inform your TUD University Supervisor and Internship Office regularly about the progress and ask for help in case of issues with the company or agency you are working for. Don't stay below our radar and complain afterwards about lack of supervision or issues with TUD's "bureaucracy".

Assessment

Both reports will be assessed by your TUD University supervisor and the company supervisor. The TUD University Supervisor gives the final mark.

Rules

Your internship should be accepted by the University Supervisor before you start with it. This means that you need to send a complete and signed internship agreement with project proposal BEFORE the start of the internship to the internship office. Retro-acceptance is NOT possible. Be very careful with internships abroad.

These signatures follow after a positive assessment of your project proposal and an official go/no go decision by the University Coordinator and the Internship Office. More information about the procedure can be found here.

Please follow this procedure carefully. Non-compliance may have the following consequences:

  • If you leave and start without prior approval and/or your application form is received too late, then the Internship Office and the University Supervisor refuse your application and your work is in vain. You won't get the annotation nor the 10 EC.
