Career & Counselling Services offers a large number of workshops and training courses (many of which are free of charge) on studying effectively, getting personal support, programme choice and careers. These improve your skills and help you to find a suitable degree programme, job or internship!

Workshop Coping with Fear of Failure
2 meetings, English
Perfectionism and negative self-sabotaging thoughts are very common and cause stress, anxiety (fear of failing or fear of success) and a lack of self-esteem.  This can cause in the end much delay and less success in your study or research process.   You might even end up in a downward spiral.
During this training you will gain insights in the underlying mechanism of fear of failing, fear of success and perfectionism. You learn a cognitive behavioural technique (CBT) as a way to stop the negative spiral and change it into a more balanced mind-set, and therefore enhance your coping strategies. Daily practice with these techniques will have a sustainable positive impact on your self-esteem and work-life balance.

Workshop Mindful Coping with Stress
One afternoon, English
During this workshop of 1,5 hr. you gain some insights in the stress theory, you fill in a self-assessment questionnaire (M.A.A.S.) and you practise with several mindful meditation techniques. The workshop contains a basic training.
The aim of this workshop is to understand and to learn how to relief physical and mental stress. The method is based on Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness 

Workshop - Assertion. Being assertive, but how?
One afternoon, English
This training course is meant for students who find it difficult to set boundaries and standing up for themselves in social situations and want to learn how to change their behaviour. This training course will help you to gain insight in social behaviour and thoughts that can hinder you. You will also get tools for changing your behaviour so you can stand up for yourself what will give you more self-confidence in social situations and in life. 

This training course is only a beginning. If you really want to change the way you act in social situations, you need to practice a lot with what you have learned.

Job search in The Netherlands
What matters when you are looking for a job in The Netherlands and how employers recruit? We will discuss the different job search strategies, look at the Dutch business culture, communication style and how those factors can play a role in the hiring process.

LinkedIn lunch lecture
With over 450 million users, LinkedIn is a powerful tool in finding a job,  internship or building your network. We will look at what tools to use and how to stand out in order to maximise your chances of getting noticed on LinkedIn. Is your profile too much or maybe not enough, in order to represent and promote your skills experiences and interests – these are some of the topics we will be focusing on during this lecture. 

CV & Motivation letter
Join our workshop and feel confident about building your CV and motivation letters. You will use an analytical approach to review a vacancy and look at how to structure and decide on  the content for those important documents. You will get tips & tricks to write effective CV and motivation letters in the future.

Prepare for networking & practice your pitch
You will look at networking as a strategy to reveal  and create more career opportunities. Get more confident in presenting yourself by starting with building and practicing your pitch.

Self analyses from career perspective
In preparation for any job search activity or interview it helps to recognise your strengths and be able to reflect on your core qualities. Through exercises and discussions you will practice to identify your strengths from a particular situation. We will look at the link between core qualities and the challenges it can bring in a professional context.

Many companies use assessment centres as part of their selection process. For them, they are a sure-fire way of getting the right people. For you, they can be a challenging assault-course of individual and group activities. This interactive workshop will provide you with insight and practice of assessment methods commonly used. During the session you will undertake a mock technical interview and take part in a group discussion. You will also be provided with hints and tips for preparing for presentations and role play activities.

In preparation for a job or internship interview we will explore the little details that can make a big difference between a good performance and an exceptional one. You will look at structured interview techniques, tips on answering common and tricky interview questions, how to relate to interviewers, as well as answering any questions you might have.

Catch up with 21st century career choices
After graduation there are so many options.
We will discuss the pros and cons of traditional career options: employee, self-employed, business owner, start-up and investor. Various aspects are taken into account, such as risk, purpose and meaning, security, work-life balance and others. Hybrid careers and new ways of working in the 21st century are also taken into consideration.
Whatever choice you make, at any time personal leadership and responsibility is a must in current volatile times.

Are you considering doing a PhD here at TU Delft or at another university and want to check you’re making a good decision? If so, together in this workshop we will explore life as a PhD; how to find and secure a PhD; the research and transferable skills developed during a PhD and the career opportunities in and outside of academia. A PhD will also join the session and share their experiences during this session too. All questions are welcome.

Dress for success
Do you show who you are with your clothing style?  How you dress is a form of communication about who you are and what you want to radiate. Shape, color, choice of fabric, style and accessories influence this. Do you want to know more about which choices you can make that suit you well? Then join us and learn how to use colour and style as a tool for communication and personal identity.

Courageous career conversations for introverts
In this workshop we’ll explore ways to have more courageous, meaningful conversations with potential employers (or anyone you like) from a place of realness (being who you are). No shortcuts, no one-liners, no easy solutions. Just you, your curiosity for learning and some courage. We will work with key learnings of research undertaken by professor Brené Brown. She found that courage is a collection of four skill sets, of which being able to rumble with vulnerability is crucial. Expect some serious reflection as well as some experimental doing.

What do you REALLY want?
This may be a critical question you are currently asking yourself? How would you answer it at interview with a potential future employer? If you’re finding it difficult to answer, join this interactive workshop where you will be encouraged to think about what intrinsically motivates you and define a list of drivers which will help you make informed study and career related decisions.

What is the purpose of a motivation letter and CV? How do I assess if I am a good candidate for the job? How do I tailor my skills and experiences to their needs?  What are the guidelines for the structure, content and lay-out?  Join our workshop and find out the answers to these typical job application questions. By the end of the workshop, you will have the tools to write an effective CV and motivation letter and thereby increasing your chances of being invited to interview.
