MSc Technical Medicine
The MSc Technical Medicine is a three year joint-degree Master programme together with Leiden University, Erasmus University Rotterdam and their academic medical centers.
It combines a thorough understanding of the functioning of the human body and the influence of disease processes with an equally comprehensive understanding of medical technology and professional medical procedures.

Introduction Programme
All new MSc-Students receive an email with an invititation to an introduction programme event. This will take place on the Friday before the start of the Academic Year.
The first year will concentrate on providing a deeper theoretical understanding of the specialisation, training students in reserved procedures and clinical skills in a simulated environment and broadening their knowledge and skills in patient safety, efficiency, quality and the implementation of complex medical technologies.

This specialisation focuses on two important trends in health care: early diagnosis and developing the most targeted patient-specific treatment possible with the shortest possible recovery time and minimal side effects. The first year exsists out of the following track specific courses:

A double degree in TM and BME is not possible, because of too much overlap in the obligatory part of the master BME and the courses of Clinical Technology and Technical Medicine. However, it is possible to follow extra courses which will be mentioned on the supplement of your diploma.

- Only students with a Bachelor’s degree Clinical Technology (joint degree) or with a Bachelor’s degree Technical Medicine (University of Twente) are directly admitted to the master programme TM.
- On an individual basis a pre-master programme may be possible for some students. To discuss possibilities, please contact schakel-3ME@tudelft.nl.
Second Year
In the second year, students will do four clinical-technological internships of ten weeks each. Internships start every three months with start dates in September, December, March and June. Contact stage-TM@tudelft.nl for more information about the internships.
Internships are full time with every other Friday reserved for education. On Friday morning obligatory medical techniques in clinical practice (MTK) and Friday afternoons obligatory mentor-group meetings.

- Available internships for every season are shared with students 2 months before the start of the internship. Students will set their preferences and a matching will be made between students and internships. Students who want to arrange their own internship can ask their potential supervisors to register the internship via the submission form. If the internship is approved and added to the internship database, students who have arrange the internship will be matched with it.

No it is not possible to do an TM2-internship at a company or in another country. There is a possibility to do such an internship during the TM3-year.

BrightspaceThird Year
During the third year, you complete your literature study and MSc thesis project. Further, you have a complementary 15 EC in which you can follow courses, do an internship or a thesis feasibility project. As a student, we expect you to take the lead in arranging these projects yourself and approach the researchers in the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centers that you’d like to be your supervisor. Overgang kwartalen 2024-2025
Vanaf academisch jaar 2024-2025 zullen de meeste van de jaar 1 blokvakken binnen de opleiding Technical Medicine in een kwartalenstructuur ingepland worden. In onderstaand overzicht van veelgestelde vragen kan jij meer informatie vinden over de aankomende veranderingen. Staat jouw vraag hier niet bij? De verwachting is dat de studeerbaarheid van de opleiding zal verbeteren binnen de kwartalenstructuur. In de bestaande octalenstructuur is namelijk weinig bezinktijd voor de inhoud van een vak en er is , bij ziekte of uitval, weinig gelegenheid om stof in te halen. Dit draagt momenteel bij aan een hoge (ervaren) werkdruk onder zowel studenten en docenten. Daarnaast werken de reguliere onderwijsorganisaties van de drie betrokken instellingen met vier onderwijsperiodes (kwartalen), wat extra logistieke uitdagingen met zich meebrengt.

De meeste jaar 1 blokvakken (vakken specifiek voor S&S of I&I) zullen 10 i.p.v. 5 weken in beslag nemen. De overstap op kwartalenstructuur heeft geen effect op jaar 2 en 3 vakken/stages.
Wel zijn er aanpassingen aan het onderwijs wat loopt naast de stages, MTK wordt namelijk vervangen door een nieuw vak “Employability in Clinical Technology”. Zie de overgangsregelingen voor de situatie die voor jou van toepassing is.

Het kan zijn dat een (her)tentamen op een ander moment dan gewend in het kwartaal aangeboden wordt aangezien de vakken 10 i.p.v. 5 weken zullen lopen. Ook is het mogelijk dat enkele blokvakken zullen verschuiven naar een ander kwartaal. Er zullen echter geen blokvakken van semester veranderen.

Het TM programma 2024-2025 staat nu online.
Let op: enkele lijnvakken in jaar 1 en 2 lijken in het overzicht het hele jaar te lopen. Deze vakken zijn echter flexibel in te delen en nemen niet het hele jaar in beslag. Het gaat hier om de volgende vakken:
- TM10010: Dient gedurende semester 1 of semester 2 gevolgd te worden. Februaristarters kunnen dit onderwijs ook starten in semester 2.
- TM10004: Onderwijs wordt het hele jaar aangeboden, maar onderwijs loopt per groep in vijf achtereenvolgende weken. Inschrijving voor groepen gaat via de Brightspace pagina van TM10004.
- TM10003: Dit zelfstudie vak kan gedurende het hele studiejaar gevolgd worden. Meer informatie is te vinden op de Brightspace pagina. Er is een introductiecollege in de eerste week van het collegejaar.
- TM20011: Onderwijs wordt het hele jaar aangeboden, maar onderwijs loopt per groep in vijf achtereenvolgende weken. Inschrijving voor groepen gaat via de Brightspace pagina van TM20011.
- TM20010: Onderwijs loopt parallel aan stages. Latere instroom in het studiejaar is mogelijk.
