Ir. drs. E. (Ellen) Tromp

Since October 2014 Ellen Tromp is a part-time PhD researcher at the Technology, Policy and Management faculty of Delft University of Technology, at the Policy Analysis section. She also works at Deltares. Currently she is working on enhancing knowledge transfer and use in the design processes of multifunctional flood defences. Her project is part of the STW project “Multifunctional Flood defences” and is supervised by Wil A.H. Thissen (promotor) and Pieter W.G. Bots (daily supervisor).

Her particular interests in the use, transfer and uptake of knowledge within the design processes of spatially integrated flood defences. She obtained her M.Sc. in Civil Engineering at the University of Technology in Delft in 2005. In 2011, she obtained a second M.Sc. from the Erasmus University Rotterdam in Public Administration, with a specialization in delta governance. From 2006, she workes at Deltares. She is an expert in the field of urban dike design. She has gained expertise in the combination of geo-engineering, hydrology, spatial planning, and public administration. She has a wide range of experience in this field in the Netherlands and abroad. Her contribution to projects include mathematical modelling, design and application of decision support systems, policy analysis, (pre-) investment studies, master planning, project management and training in all of these aspects. With the transition to TPM, she hopes to broaden her scope, and to add another dimension to her interdisciplinary perspective.
