Dr. T.W. (Theo) Fens
Theo Fens is engaged in a part-time capacity as a Senior Research Fellow in the Economics of Infrastructures Section of the Technology, Policy and Management Faculty of Delft University of Technology. As such, Theo researches energy market developments, among which the ongoing de/re-regulation of energy markets, policy making on market design and its impact on the organisation and operation of energy companies. Main point of attention is the co-evolution of technology and institutional arrangements.
Theo holds expertise and experience in the realm of strategic and tactical consultancy in the energy and utilities world. Theo is an independent consultant, holds a position as associated partner at Deloitte and is associate partner at the Global Gas Netherlands Initiative. He is also a member of the advisory board of two companies: Driven by Values (renewable energy and biobased sector) and Ension, an energy service company.
In the more than 40 years of working Theo held positions that varied from electrical engineering activities, via managing fundamental and applied research in electronics at KPN Research, development of application software for petroleum engineering at Shell International E&P as a petrophysicist, up to and including managing research required for strategic consultancy for energy companies at Capgemini. At Capgemini Theo led various strategic and IT projects for Nuon, APX, EPZ, Essent and Eneco. For 9 years Theo did held a partner position (board member) at Utility Consulting Partners, a boutique consultancy in the area of utilities. Theo holds a degree in electrical engineering (electronics and energy technology) and a PhD in experimental physics from the faculty of Applied Physics, Delft University of Technology.
