A.D. (Daan) Sutmuller

Daan Sutmuller started his PhD research on November 2015 under supervision of Prof. dr. ir. Pieter van Gelder and Dr.ir. Mariëlle den Hengst-Bruggeling. He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Cognitive Psychology and is working for the National Police of the Netherlands.

His research focus is on the collection, prioritization and elimination of persons of interest in criminal investigations. Technological development in the last decades has led to a range of new pieces of evidence and a world of limitless access to data. Little is known about how these developments influence the process of decision-making within criminal investigations. The interpretation and weighing of evidence, and the translation to managing the investigation onto the right person of interest is becoming extremely complex.
