Biography

Dap Hartmann (1960) has a PhD in Astronomy (Leiden, 1994). He was Visiting Scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and Researcher at the University of Bonn and at the Max Planck Institut für Radioastronomie.

In 2003 he started a new career at Delft University of Technology. Since 2012 he is Associate Professor of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship and analyzes the commercial potential of new technologies. His students have started more than two dozen technology-based companies. He is the six times recipient of the New Venture award for best entrepreneurship education in the Netherlands. In 2010 he received the ‘Entrepreneurial Motivator’ award at Delft University of Technology.

Dap Hartmann has published many papers in academic journals, trade journals, magazines and newspapers. He is a frequent public speaker and has a regular column in the university newspaper. He is author of Atlas of Galactic Neutral Hydrogen and Managing Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation. With conductor and composer Reinbert de Leeuw, he wrote Over de grens, a book on twentieth-century classical music.
