Language of science
Content
In order to successfully complete an academic degree, it is not enough to know general Dutch only: students need to know academic Dutch as well. This course is meant for those who are going to do a technical academic degree. For the BSc Electrical Engineering this course is no longer required. The syllabus contains texts on Mathematical and Physics topics at secondary school level as well as technical topics offered in freshman engineering courses; topics range from computing and programming, the design process, company processes to models of technological development. You will learn to understand lectures on technical matters in Dutch and you will be able to talk about calculations, processes and experiments.
For students who want to study Civil Engineering, it is compulsory to take an extra module.
Study workload
This course is a complete self-study programme. The study workload is 40 hours a week. It will take around 6 weeks to study all the material. For the Civil Engineering module, you should aim for about four weeks.
