Language of science
In order to successfully complete an academic degree, it is not enough to know general Dutch only: students need to know academic Dutch as well. This course is meant for those who are going to do a technical academic degree. For the BSc Electrical Engineering this course is no longer required. The syllabus contains texts on Mathematical and Physics topics at secondary school level as well as technical topics offered in freshman engineering courses; topics range from computing and programming, the design process, company processes to models of technological development. You will learn to understand lectures on technical matters in Dutch and you will be able to talk about calculations, processes and experiments.
For students who want to study Civil Engineering, it is compulsory to take an extra module.
This course is a complete self-study programme. The study workload is 40 hours a week. It will take around 6 weeks to study all the material. For the Civil Engineering module, you should aim for about four weeks.
The syllabus Vaktaal is available at the secretary’s office.
The Language of Science course can only be done after having successfully completed the Derde Ronde (Advanced course) or the Staatsexamen NT2 (level II). Alternatively, your teacher may have advised you to do the course after having done a level test. Please contact the secretary’s office to be registered for this course: firstname.lastname@example.org.
When you have passed all 4 components of the NT2 State Exam (level II), we would like to receive a copy of the certificates you have obtained.
After registration you can start the programme whenever you would like. For appointments about testing etc. please, contact the secretary’s office.
