English for PhD Candidates

We offer a range of English skills courses to help you improve your English. Our goal is to help you succeed in your academic career and communicate your research results effectively to a wider audience.

In order to take a course at the right level, you need to take our placement test first. You will receive a personal recommendation by email and can then register for a course via Brightspace. All of our courses are offered via the Graduate School and offer Graduate School credits.

We offer three general courses in Academic English:

Do you want some tips for your writing? Schedule an appointment with a writing instructor: 

Do you want to learn to present your research results? Take the course Prom2:

This seminar is taught by the Communication Department, and no placement test is required. Registration is via Coachview.

When you are in your final year and writing your dissertation, you can take the course Prom3:

If you have sufficient results and are writing an article, you should take this course:

Have you taken Prom 4 and are you working on a new article?

Are you also a lecturer as well as a PhD candidate?

Cancellations

If you are unable to attend the course, it is your responsibility to unenroll from the course. Please do this promptly so that another researcher can take your place. If you do not unenroll at least a week before the course, the Graduate School will be billed; you will not receive credit, and the Graduate School will not allow you to take the course again later.
